Say What!

“Rico was doing a good job as the leader, Carson got rolling there for a minute, and I didn’t think I was going to get by him. I didn’t really know exactly what to do. Rico got to a lapper. He couldn’t follow him and had to go top or middle. That car hit the berm in front of me. That gave me a bunch of clean air and probably messed him up. We were in the right place at the right time, but you always have to execute every lap. The car felt great during the feature. The car felt better and better as that slime got thrown off the bottom.” Kyle Larson winning night 2 of the Knoxville Nationals

“I don’t even know what to say. I’ve never won a prelim night. I’ve run second. This definitely sets us up good for Saturday, Living just outside Des Moines now in Grimes, this is kind of a home for me. The first time I came here in I think 2016 or 2017 I got to work for Aaron Reutzel. And you know, Danny Lasoski being my idol was one that was obviously super successful here. And I think sometimes when you really put your mind to something at a place you want to be successful at, it makes you work harder to really do that. It’s the best racetrack in the world. Best fans in the world. There’s no question. Best racing surface you get all year long. Whether the track is a little bit wetter like it was tonight or it’s super dry, you almost have three lines of racing every time you come here. My guys did an incredible job. Hats off to Adam (Clark), Bob (Curtis), and Aaron (Beiler).” Gio Scelzi winning night 1 of the Knoxville Nationals

“That’s what we’ve been working for all year,I’m just really happy for my team. They really put their heads down and work on these things. It’s a special place to be up here on the front stretch. We’ve made it a point to come here a few times this season. Those 25-lap features, when they go non-stop, they can get quite grueling mentally. You get excited catching lapped traffic, because you know that’s where you can get a torrid pace. I know what (Cappy) brought to Knoxville, the history, and it’s important this event continues and the fans support this the week before Nationals.” Rico Abreu winning the Capitani Clasic at Knoxville Raceway

“The team has been busy,We came in with not a lot of expectations. We wanted to come here and get laps and confidence, and just get in the mood for the biggest week of the year next week. That was a really good racecar. I feel like we were really good there in the feature. We didn’t lead all the laps and get all the money, but we’ll take 30 grand! We’ve never quite got a wing win here, and at the 360 Nationals, I think that means just a little bit more. It’s a pretty special win.” Tyler Courtney winning the 360 Nationals at Knoxville Raceway

  • World of Outlaws)Kyle Larson continues to cement his place as one of the best to ever wheel a Sprint Car. But it doesn’t seem to matter when he shows up to race against the best Sprint Car drivers in the country.World of Outlaws8/10

  • World of Outlaws)Hope is alive for Donny Schatz at the 63rd NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. Wednesday’s prelim night at Knoxville Raceway didn’t go according to plan for the 11-time Knoxville Nationals champion. He nearly missed the Heat Race invert with a 38th place Qualifying effort. And then in the Feature he could only move forward once spot from 19th to 18th. The night left Schatz well outside the lock-ins for Saturday’s 50-lap finale and forced him to Friday’s FVP Hard Knox Night.World of Outlaws8/10

  • World of Outlaws)Not too long ago many questioned Kyle Larson’s chances at the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. But in one short week, every trace of doubt has been erased, and he stands likely as the favorite. A big week at Eldora Speedway served up struggles for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion. It started with a strong runner-up, but then he closed out the week with a 13th during the Knight Before and missing the Kings Royal main event.World of Outlaws  8/8

  • World of Outlaws) “Hot Sauce” is hungry. Giovanni Scelzi is a Californian by birth but now calls Iowa home. KCP Racing, the team he competes with, is located roughly an hour’s drive from Knoxville Raceway. The pairing have won the 360 Nationals. They’ve sat on the pole of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. They’re hungrier than ever for a Knoxville Nationals. And they made a big step toward that goal on Wednesday’s BRANDT Professional Agriculture Qualifying Night at “The Sprint Car Capital of the World.” Scelzi lined up sixth for the 25-lapper and put on a show with a charge to the front. After an uneventful first half of the race for the Fresno, CA driver, Scelzi got up on the wheel to move forward. On Lap 17 he took over second. Then he sealed the deal with a daring move between leader Jacob Allen and a lapped car entering Turn 1. Emotion flowed in Victory Lane. Scelzi yelled with joy as he rose atop the wing, and the crowd joined him with a roar. World of Outlaws 8/8

  • Skagit Speedway WA)At the age of 14 and almost 3 months, Levi Hillier pulled off what many strive for but never achieve - winning the sprint car features in two different divisions at Skagit Speedway on the same night. The first victory of the night came in the Sportsman Sprint division, where Levi had a relatively easy go of things, leading all twenty five laps of the feature unchallenged for the win. The victory was his third of the year in the Sportsman Sprint division. Jesson Jacobson and Steve Parker dueled for second and third place with Jacobson coming out on top. Parker set quick time and won his heat race. Hillier won heat two with Kai Dixon winning heat three. Race Results8/4

  • USAC)Thirty-nine years is a long time any way you slice it. Back in 1985, Coca-Cola introduced “new Coke;” the first Nintendo gaming system was released in North America; Michael Jordan was named NBA’s Rookie of the Year; and Tears for Fears was tearing up the Billboard music charts. The year of 1985 also just so happened to mark the most recent occurrence of a four-race winning streak by a driver in USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car competition, a feat achieved that season by Rick Hood en route to his second consecutive series championship. Nearly four decades later, Logan Seavey became the first to win four-straight since that point in time during Friday night’s opening event of the 37th annual NOS Energy Drink USAC Indiana Sprint Week Presented By Honest Abe Roofing at Putnamville’s Lincoln Park Speedway.USAC 7/27
