World of Outlaws)Hope is alive for Donny
Schatz at the 63rd NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals
presented by Casey’s. Wednesday’s prelim night at Knoxville

38th place Qualifying effort. And then in the Feature he could
only move forward once spot from 19th to 18th. The night left
Schatz well outside the lock-ins for Saturday’s 50-lap finale

World of Outlaws)Not too long ago many
questioned Kyle Larson’s chances at the NOS Energy Drink
Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. But in one short week,
every trace of doubt has been erased, and he stands likely as
the favorite. A big week at Eldora Speedway served up struggles
for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion. It started with a
strong runner-up, but then he closed out the week with a 13th
during the Knight Before and missing the Kings Royal main event.World of Outlaws 8/8

World of Outlaws) “Hot Sauce” is hungry.
Giovanni Scelzi is a Californian by birth but now calls Iowa

ever for a Knoxville Nationals. And they made a big step toward
that goal on Wednesday’s BRANDT Professional Agriculture
Qualifying Night at “The Sprint Car Capital of the World.”
Scelzi lined up sixth for the 25-lapper and put on a show with a
charge to the front. After an uneventful first half of the race
for the Fresno, CA driver, Scelzi got up on the wheel to move
forward. On Lap 17 he took over second. Then he sealed the deal
with a daring move between leader Jacob Allen and a lapped car
entering Turn 1. Emotion flowed in Victory Lane. Scelzi yelled
with joy as he rose atop the wing, and the crowd joined him with
a roar.

Series National Tour, and he made his seventh visit of the year
after taking home the Friday portion of the Xtream powered by

at this level,” Hafertepe said. “Definitely not where we wanted
to be, going out that late [in Qualifying]. Just couldn’t muster
up any better of a time than we put down, but to win the

USAC)When it comes to competing at the
Terre Haute Action Track, some drivers are simply more
comfortable in daring the famed dirt oval than their peers. The
list of those who have conquered the Hoosier State’s lone
1/2-mile dirt oval in USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National

category, and on Thursday night, he tamed the beast once more
for the fourth time in his USAC career to score the victory in

EMPA)All of us at the Eastern Motorsport
Press Association are deeply saddened by the news on the passing
of member Evan Canfield who died unexpectedly early this
morning. Evan was an amazing young talented photographer, with a
passion that was passed on to him by his parents Stephanie and
Duane Canfield. He took great pride in his work that was always
exceptional and garnered several awards from the organization
for that work. His crowning achievement came this past January
at the EMPA convention when Evan was named the Ace Lane Sr.
Memorial EMPA Photographer of the Year. The organization is
always looking for young talent such as Evan who is able to
share the message of EMPA, and he proudly did just that. The
Canfield family is a true testament of what professionalism
stands for within motorsports and all with a heart of gold. We
ask that you please take a moment to remember Evan and his
family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
May he rest in peace. 8/1

Seavey scored his fourth straight USAC sprint car win over Kyle
Cummins and Briggs Danner. The race had one car leave the
ballpark and end up in the parking lot and another erupt into a
ball of fire in the wild night.A Typical

USAC)Thirty-nine years is a long time any
way you slice it. Back in 1985, Coca-Cola introduced “new Coke;”
the first Nintendo gaming system was released in North America;
Michael Jordan was named NBA’s Rookie of the Year; and Tears for
Fears was tearing up the Billboard music charts. The year of
1985 also just so happened to mark the most recent occurrence of
a four-race winning streak by a driver in USAC AMSOIL National
Sprint Car competition, a feat achieved that season by Rick Hood
en route to his second consecutive series championship. Nearly
four decades later, Logan Seavey became the first to win
four-straight since that point in time during Friday night’s
opening event of the 37th annual NOS Energy Drink USAC Indiana
Sprint Week Presented By Honest Abe Roofing at Putnamville’s
